German SDG Award

The German SDG Award honors projects that contribute significantly towards the Sustainable Development Goals as the core of their actions as well as the projects commitment to sustainable development in an exemplary way. Specifically, the holistic perspective on the SDGs as a target system: Sustainable development means simultaneous realization and implementation of environmental and climate protection, as well as (pre- and post-) economic development as concurrent core concerns, which are reflected within the 17 sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Companies, educational institutions, organisations, initiatives, projects as well as cities, districts and municipalities can be awarded. Applications for the German SDG Award 2023 can be submitted in three categories: "Companies", "Youth and Education" as well as "Cities, Municipalities and Counties".

Companies are one of the most important pillars of our society by creating and supporting progress and innovations. With a clear focus on the SDGs, companies can make a crucial/essential contribution: climate and environmental protection, sustainable production and supply chains, energy-efficient infrastructure, fair working conditions, ethical and responsible business practices as well as equality and diversity are effective levers here. Exemplary commitment should be recognized in this category and serves as an inspiration and incentive for other industry stakeholders.

As administrative units, cities, municipalities, and districts are taking on responsibility for companies and people. Sustainability starts in the communities. The SDGs can serve as a compass for strategic orientation. It is important to maintain, promote and further develop cities, municipalities and districts as attractive locations in the future. Sustainable urban development can help to reduce the need for natural resources, focus on resource conservation and create a better quality of life.

Young people are the future. Their ideas and passion drive change. Children and young people develop creative ideas, find innovative solutions towards current challenges by raising awareness of a sustainable future. In addition, (educational) initiatives, projects and organizations can make a significant contribution to the realization of the sustainability goals: educational institutions help to support children and young people in developing an understanding of the connections between the environment, economy and society.
